4140 (American standard)

Manganese (Mn): 0.75~1.00%
Chromium (Cr): 0.80~1.10%
Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15~0.25%
The content control of other elements (such as phosphorus and sulfur) is relatively loose.

42CrMo (National Standard)
Carbon (C): 0.38~0.45%
Manganese (Mn): 0.50~0.80% (significantly lower than the American standard)

The control of phosphorus and sulfur content is stricter.

2, Mechanical properties and heat treatment
