1. Definition and Dimension Specification
Stainless steel tube is a hollow profile made of iron based alloy with chromium content ≥ 10.5%.Tube is usually specified accurately by OD (Outer Diameter) + WT (Wall Thickness) (different from pipe marked by NPS Nominal Pipe Size). It has tight dimensional tolerance, mainly used for machinery, instrumentation, heat exchangers.Pipe focuses on fluid transportation and is designed according to pressure ratings (SCH).
2. Common Grades
Austenitic Stainless Steel (most widely used)304/304L: general corrosion resistance, widely applied.316/316L: better resistance to chloride and seawater corrosion, preferred for chemical and marine applications.321: titanium stabilized, resistant to intergranular corrosion, suitable for high temperature service.
Ferritic Stainless Steel: 430, low cost, magnetic, for decoration and dry environments.
Duplex Stainless Steel: 2205, high strength and stress corrosion resistance, for oil & gas, paper industry.
Martensitic Stainless Steel: 410/420, heat treatable, high hardness, for valves and tools, lower corrosion resistance.

Welded Stainless Steel Tube (ERW / TIG)Made by rolling strip and welding, lower cost and high productivity.TIG welding is often used for thin wall tubes to ensure clean surface.Standards: ASTM A312, GB/T 12771.
