The difference between T5 and T6 states of 6063 aluminum alloy is mainly reflected in the heat treatment process, mechanical properties, and applicable scenarios:
1, Differences in heat treatment processes
T5 status:
Process: After extrusion molding, air cooling (cooling rate of about 100 ºC/minute) is carried out, followed by manual aging at 180 ºC for 6 hours
Features: No need for solution treatment, low cost, but limited strengthening degree
T6 status:
Process: Solution treatment at 530 ºC for 1 hour, followed by water quenching (cooling rate>200 ºC/s), and then aging at 175 ºC for 8 hours
Characteristics: Through solid solution treatment, the distribution of alloy elements is more uniform, more strengthening phases are precipitated, and the hardness is significantly improved
2, Performance comparison
Strength: The tensile strength of T6 (210-245 MPa) is significantly higher than that of T5 (160-200 MPa), and the yield strength of T6 can reach 180 MPa, while T5 is only 110 MPa
Processing applicability:
Bending performance: T5 has a higher elongation rate and a minimum bending radius of up to 3 times the wall thickness, while T6 requires 4.5 times the wall thickness
Welding performance: T6 welding requires re solution treatment, otherwise the strength of the heat affected zone will decrease by 40%
Surface treatment: T5 anodized film has better uniformity and color difference control with Δ E<1.5
3, Application scenario selection
T5 Recommended Scenarios:
Curtain wall structure, door and window profiles: scenes that require high processing flexibility and moderate strength requirements
Economic industrial components: cost sensitive and do not require high load-bearing applications
T6 Recommended Scenarios:
Load bearing brackets and high-speed ship components: structural components that require high strength, such as building support frames or ship components
High wind pressure environment: occasions that require bearing large dynamic loads
