Product Description

Cr12MoV steel is a high carbon and high chromium martensitic steel. Its carbon content is much lower than Cr12 steel, and the addition of molybdenum and vanadium elements has significantly improved the hot workability, impact toughness, and carbide distribution of the steel. This steel has high wear resistance, hardenability, quenching hardness, strength and toughness, thermal stability, compressive strength, as well as micro deformation, excellent comprehensive performance, and wide adaptability. The softening temperature upon heating is 520 ºC. The cross-sectional size below 40mm can be completely quenched, and the wear resistance of this steel is 3-4 times higher than that of general low-alloy tool steel. The quenching volume deformation is small. Quenching depth: 200-300mm for oil quenching.
During the crystallization process, a large amount of eutectic network carbides are formed, which are very hard and brittle. Although the carbides have been crushed to a certain extent during the rolling process, they are distributed in a strip, mesh, block, and pile like manner along the direction of steel processing. The degree of segregation becomes more severe with the increase of steel diameter.
After high-temperature austenitization annealing, the unevenness of carbides in large and medium section steel can be reduced from grade 8-9 to grade 6-7, which can refine the grain size. When used in cold heading molds, the service life can be increased by more than 100%. The secondary hardening hardness is 60HRC. The volume fraction of undissolved carbides in the quenched state is 10% to 20%, and the volume fraction of residual austenite is 10% to 40%
When tempered at ≤ 450 ºC, as the tempering temperature increases, the hardness value of the steel decreases and the length shrinks, due to the precipitation of carbides in martensite; During tempering at 480-550 ºC, residual austenite decomposes and transforms into martensite, resulting in secondary hardening. The height of the hardening peak is related to the quenching temperature of the steel.
After dual stage quenching, there are highly dispersed and uniformly distributed special carbides on the matrix in the structure, achieving high comprehensive mechanical and practical properties. To ensure the quality of heat treatment and reduce the cost of heat treatment, the heat process method should be selected according to the complexity of the mold shape.
The steel has undergone spheroidization annealing treatment at 1100 ºC, followed by quenching at 980 ºC and tempering at 240 ºC. It has a good combination of strength and toughness, and its impact energy has increased by 80% while maintaining its hardness. The tempering brittleness temperature range is between 325 and 375 ºC.
After ordinary quenching, the structure of the steel is composed of martensite and residual austenite carbides MC. Tempering to a working hardness of 60-62HRC will result in partial decomposition of residual austenite and an increase in carbide phase content. Fine titanium carbide can improve the strength and wear resistance of mold steel.
