ASTM A213/A312 304/304L Stainless Steel Tube 8 Inch 3 Inch Seamless Cold Rolled 321 316L Metal Inox Round Pipe with EN3.1 Mill Test Certificate
Stainless Steel Pipe
Stainless steel pipe is a hollow long circular steel product manufactured from stainless steel alloys, renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance, robust mechanical performance, smooth surface finish, hygienic properties and non-toxicity. It is a staple material across industrial, construction, residential and sanitary sectors, with customizable specifications to suit diverse application requirements.
Key Characteristics
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Contains core alloying elements such as chromium (Cr ≥ 10.5%) and nickel (Ni), which form a dense, self-healing passive oxide film on the surface. This film effectively resists rust and chemical erosion in air, water, acid, alkali and mild corrosive media.
Excellent Mechanical Properties: Boasts high tensile strength (≥ 515MPa), good toughness and ductility. It resists brittle fracture at low temperatures and maintains structural stability at elevated temperatures, suitable for harsh working environments.
Hygienic & Non-toxic: The dense, pore-free surface prevents bacterial adhesion and reproduction, complying with strict hygiene standards for food processing, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
Aesthetic & Low Maintenance: Available in a variety of surface finishes (polished, matte, brushed, etc.) without the need for additional coating. The surface is easy to clean and maintain, retaining its appearance for long-term use.
Long Service Life: With a service life of 20 to 50 years in general ambient conditions, it far outperforms carbon steel pipes and reduces long-term replacement and maintenance costs.
High Formability & Weldability: Most common grades can be easily cut, bent, welded and fabricated into custom shapes and structures, adapting to complex engineering design requirements.
Classification
By Manufacturing Process
Seamless Stainless Steel Pipes: Produced via hot rolling, cold rolling, cold drawing or extrusion, with no welding seams. Delivers higher pressure resistance and structural integrity, ideal for high-pressure fluid transmission and critical structural applications.
Welded Stainless Steel Pipes: Formed by welding stainless steel strips/coils, divided into ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipes (straight seam) and SSAW (Spiral Submerged Arc Welded) pipes (spiral seam). Cost-effective and suitable for large-diameter, low-to-medium pressure applications.
By Cross-Section Shape
Round Pipes: The most common type, optimized for fluid flow and uniform stress distribution, widely used for pipeline systems.
Special-Shaped Pipes: Custom cross-sections including square, rectangular, elliptical, diamond, conical and stepped pipes, designed for structural and decorative applications with specific space and shape requirements.
By Pipe End Configuration
Plain End Pipes: Cut and finished pipe ends, for welding or flange connection.
Threaded End Pipes: Machined with external or internal threads (standard or special threads), for quick threaded connection in low-pressure piping systems.
Common Stainless Steel Grades
304 (1.4301 / A240 304): The most widely used austenitic stainless steel grade. Balances excellent corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and cost-effectiveness. Suitable for general industrial piping, food processing equipment, household water supply systems and decorative applications.
316 (1.4401 / A240 316): Austenitic stainless steel with molybdenum (Mo) added. Its pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is significantly better than 304, especially in chloride-containing environments (e.g., seawater, chemical brines). Ideal for marine engineering, chemical processing, offshore oil and gas, and medical device manufacturing.
430 (1.4016 / A240 430): Ferritic stainless steel with magnetic properties, lower cost and moderate corrosion resistance. It has good heat resistance and formability, suitable for non-critical corrosive environments such as architectural decoration, kitchenware, exhaust systems and decorative railings.
304L (1.4306) / 316L (1.4404): Low-carbon variants of 304 and 316. Minimize intergranular corrosion during welding, suitable for large-scale welded structures and high-temperature corrosive environments.
Application Fields
Industrial Sector: Core material for fluid transmission pipelines (oil, gas, chemical reagents, water, steam) in petroleum, chemical, petrochemical, power generation and pharmaceutical industries. Also used as structural components for mechanical equipment, heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
Construction Sector: Applied to building facades, handrails, stair railings, window guards, curtain wall supports and municipal engineering pipelines (drinking water, sewage treatment). Combines structural strength and aesthetic appeal for both interior and exterior decoration.
Hygienic & Food Industry: Used for food processing lines, dairy equipment, beverage production pipelines, pharmaceutical filling systems and medical instrument components, thanks to its hygienic, non-toxic and easy-to-clean properties.
Marine & Offshore Engineering: 316/316L grade pipes are the primary choice for shipbuilding, offshore platforms, seawater desalination systems and coastal infrastructure, resisting seawater corrosion effectively.
Residential & Daily Use: Manufactured into kitchenware, furniture hardware, household water supply pipes, bathroom fixtures and decorative accessories, valued for its durability and aesthetic finish.

Heat treatment (for industrial piping) → 7. Straightening → 8. Pickling → 9. Hydrostatic pressure testing (leakage detection) → 10. Marking & inspection → 11. Packaging & delivery.
Hardness Metrics
Three primary hardness testing methods are universally used to measure the hardness of stainless steel pipes, each suited for different product thicknesses and application scenarios:
Brinell Hardness (HB): Measures hardness by the diameter of the indentation left by a hard steel ball under a fixed load. Ideal for testing thick, soft stainless steel pipe materials with low precision requirements; the larger the indentation diameter, the lower the hardness.
Rockwell Hardness (HR): The most widely used method for stainless steel pipes, measuring hardness by the depth of the indentation from a diamond cone or steel ball indenter. Classified into HRB (for soft grades) and HRC (for hardened/high-strength grades), it features fast testing and no need for indentation measurement.
Vickers Hardness (HV): Uses a diamond square pyramid indenter to measure hardness by the surface area of the indentation. It offers high precision and is suitable for testing thin stainless steel pipes, surface-hardened layers and small-sized pipe components, but is rarely specified in general stainless steel pipe industry standards due to complex testing procedures.
