2 inch Stainless Steel Pipe SS316 SS304 316 316l 310 Cold Rolled Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe 6" 8" 10"
Types of Stainless Steel Pipes (Market Classification)
They are mainly categorized by manufacturing process, material grade, structure, usage, surface finish and other dimensions as below:
1. By Manufacturing Process (Most Common Classification)
Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe
No welding seam, produced by hot rolling, cold drawing or extrusion.
Features: High pressure & temperature resistance, uniform wall thickness, excellent tightness.
Application: Oil, gas, chemical industry, boilers, high-pressure fluid delivery.
Welded Stainless Steel Pipe
Made by rolling steel strip into tubular shape then welding.
Longitudinal welded pipe: Straight seam weld, mainstream for general use, low cost.
Spiral welded pipe: Spiral weld, large diameter, for municipal water, large pipeline projects.
Features: Lower cost, large diameter easy to produce; for medium & low pressure scenarios.
2. By Material Grade (Alloy Series)
Austenitic Stainless Steel (Most Widely Used)
304 / 304L: Universal type, good corrosion resistance, for plumbing, decoration, food industry. 304L (low carbon) suits frequent welding.
316 / 316L: Added molybdenum, superior resistance to chloride & seawater; used in marine, chemical, pharmaceutical fields.
321: Titanium-stabilized, anti-intergranular corrosion, for high-temperature equipment.
Duplex Stainless Steel
e.g. 2205, 2507
Mix of austenite and ferrite structure, high strength and strong corrosion resistance.
Application: Offshore engineering, chemical pipelines, harsh corrosive environments.
Ferritic Stainless Steel
e.g. 409, 430
Low cost, good oxidation resistance, mainly for exhaust pipes, decorative tubes, low-demand piping.
Martensitic Stainless Steel
e.g. 410, 420
High hardness and mechanical strength, poor corrosion resistance; used for mechanical structural pipes instead of fluid piping.
3. By Wall Thickness & Pressure Rating
Standard wall pipe: Conventional thickness, for general water, gas delivery.
Thin-walled pipe: Light weight, sanitary type, widely used in drinking water, food and medical industries.
Thick-walled pipe: Heavy wall, for high pressure, high temperature industrial pipelines.
Also marked by Schedule (SCH) standards: SCH5, SCH10, SCH40, SCH80, SCH160, etc.
